The Central Wisconsin Book Festival welcomes author Pao Lor to discuss his new memoir about his experiences as a Hmong refugee, with this event in person in Stevens Point and and a second later hosted virtually!

As a five-year-old boy, Pao joined thousands of Hmong who fled for their lives through the jungles of Laos in the aftermath of war. After a difficult and perilous journey that neither of his parents survived, he reached the safety of Thailand, but the young refugee boy's challenges were only just beginning. After two years in refugee camps, Pao and his surviving family members emigrated to the United States, where a whole new set of challenges waited for him.

"Modern Jungles" is Pao's first book. He holds the Patricia Wood Baer Professorship in Education at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, where he also chairs the Professional Program in Education.

Free and open to the public. Please note that COVID safety precautions may be in place at the library and we'll keep you up to date on that. Check back at this site or our Facebook page soon for the virtual link. Call the Marathon County Public Library at 715-261-7230 for more information.
